A year ago I graduated college and moved to a new city. I moved away from everything I had known in my entire life to pursue a career with my new found degree. It was time for a new beginning and, a year later, it’s time for another one.
I graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing in April of 2016. May 13, I moved from Pensacola to Gainesville to become a Social Media Specialist and Online Reputation Manager for a Property Management company. I left my parents and most of my family to start a new life and start paying off student loans. At first, I lived with my brother and sister-in-law and lived on their 4-year-old’s bed until I found a sub-lease. I was excited and nervous to start a new life in a city when all I’ve ever known in pine trees and country roads. I had left everything I knew with a hunger in my heart to find new adventures.
Now, a year later, I have my own apartment that I share with my cat and have the greatest friends anyone could ever ask for. My parents come to visit from time to time and I have a new found addiction to Disney World. I have a great job and am getting better at navigating the streets of Gainesville. My latest adventure? I am currently applying to go back to school to earn a Masters in Public Relations from the University of Florida while juggling a full-time corporate job. Crazy I know, but it’s time for a change and I’m up for the challenge.
Being in your twenties is rough, so I decided to share my stories in hope it will help you feel less alone. I hope you enjoy my stories and lessons I’ve learned along the way. I can’t guarantee I’ll write every day, but I enjoy writing and I’ve had a bug for it lately. So, this is my life. Enjoy.
